BLUESKIN ROAD DISTRICT.
The usual monthly meeting of thia Board was held on the 3rd inst. The members present being Messrs Quayle (chairman), Downes, Martin, Young, Thomson, Anderson, M'Lachlan, and Laing. The minutes of previous meet« ing were read and confirmed and the correspondence was read. Mr Graham wrote desiring to be informed if any steps had been taken towards forming a road to his property. The Board's inspector stated that a portion of this road line was in dispute, and that a surveyor had been employed to define certain boundaries. The matter was allowed to stand over, pending
survey; Mr Graham to be written to that effeot. In regard to a requisition from ratepayers in Merohiston. The inspector was instructed to ascertain what was necessary to be done, and invite tenders for next meeting. Messrs Muirhead and M'lntosh wrote desiring that something mi<»ht bo done to the road between Blocks I and 111. It was resolved— That the embankment of the river bo repaired. A numerously signed memorial was laid before the Board protesting against thß removal of the Board's office to the Purafcanui railway station. A number of the _ memorialists appeared in support of the memorial, and a considerable discussion took place, the Chairmau warmly supporting the proposed removal. Eventually the deputation retired, being assured the memorial would receive every consideration. Mr Tanner waited on the Board stating that he wa3 unable to pass the plan of road from Purakunui Bay [to the railway station, thence to Mopanui ; and that farther work was necessary. Some discussion took place as to payment for this extra work, and finally Mr Tanner stated that he would do the work and trust to the Board's generosity for payment. The following tenders were accepted : — Contract No. 2, James Adams, £6 ; No. 4, John Man-head, jun., £11 10s— culver ta 2s 6d per yard; No. 5, J. W. Laing, £2 10s. Tenders for road metal being considered too high, it was proposed by Mr M'Lachla.n, seconded by Mr Laing, and agreed to, ' ' that froth tenders be invited. " A committee was appointed to deal with the mattor. Tenders to bo lodged with the Clerk by the 13th inst. In regard to the Board's office, it was moved by Mr Thomson, seconded by Mr Anderson, " That the resolution passed at the Board's last meeting be not given effect to for six months." The Chairman ruled thia motion out of order and declined to put it to the meeting ; and it was eventually agreed, on the motion of Mr Martin, seconded by Mr M'Lacblan, " That fresh tenders be invited in January for the erection of Board's office." Complaints being continually made as to the damage done to streets and roads by cattle and horses trespass ing thereon, it was moved by Mr Anderson, seconded by Mr Martin, and carried unanimously, " That Mr R D. Thomson be appointed Ranger for the district," tho Clerk $o give public notice of thiß appointment. The Treasurer reported that he had received - a cheque for £29 from the County Council, being tue amount of the Council's vote for the road from P t nrakanui Bay to the railway station. Aooounts to the amount of £131 18s 6d were passed for payment.
