Inveboabgill, November 9th. , The Mataura arson case was called at the Police Court on Saturday morning, and further adjourned for eight days on the application of the police. Inspector Fox, in applying for a remand, remarked that the case was only in its infancy. November 10th. To-day was kept as a close holiday. The annual rifle match between the Riverton and Invercargill Rifle Companies was fired, and was won by Invercargill by 39 points. Some athletic sports at Wallacetown were well attended. The weather was showery in the morning, but fine for the rest of the day. Oauaeu, November 11th. The unfortunate man O'Brien, who met with the accident in a well yesterday, died at about 1 o'clock to-day, never having recoveied consciousness. No inquest will be held on the bodies of the two children drowned yesterday. Lawbenoe, November 11th. Nearly L4OOO, consisting of land revenue and subsidy on rates, has been paid to the credit of the Tuapeka County account. This sum will relieve the Council of their temporary difficulty.
