The Oromwe'l Argus says :—": — " A cake of 7130z of grid v/os lodged iv the Colonial Bank last Thursday, from the Cromwell Company's mine, Bendigo. We have not heard the exact quantity of Btone from whfc'a the cake was obtained, but believe it was about 650 tons. The mine continues to look promising, any quantity of stone being in sight. It is pr >babla thai in about three weeks from now arrangements will be completed whereby the tedious and expensive process of lifting quar z and watar up shafts Nos. 1 and 2 will be done away with, and the whole operatious conducted^ in No. 2 shaft by means cf machinery^ specially constructed for the purpose, driven by waterpower. This will be a saving of much labour and money, &yd will enable a larger quantity crfstone to be brought to grass regularly." ! The Miners' Rights Fees Reduction Act, introduced by Mr .Pyke, provides that after the Ist of Januaryj 1880, the sum to be paid for a miner's right shall be reduced fr^m LI to 10s.
