Green Island, November 4th. la presenting our monthly report of our tranaacidns in the Labour Exchange, established at the earnest request of members of the late Government, we thank fdimer* and employers generally for thoir expressions of satisfaction st tuch «m institution being established, which it will be our utmost endeavour to make select, by procuring the most skilful operatives cf new arriv«b—no charge being exacted from those who pay their own passage-money. At present there is a temporary depression in the labour market, in consequenca of tho paucity ol public works and the tightness of the money market. Shearing will commence in another week, and other works will absorb a large proportion of tne floating population. This month we quote ploughmen at £1 to 25s per week arid rations; general workers on farms, £4ft to £46 ; bl«cksmiths for stations, £2 per week with rations ; miners (plentiful), 8s to 10s per day; flrot-rate married couples, £70 to £90 ; housemaids, £35 to £40 ; navvies, 18 to 1« Id per hour; joiners, 10a to 12s (easy demand); wool-washers, £2 2s to £2 10s per week; sorters, 6i and upwards per bale ; wod classerg, £1 per thousand upward ; shearers, 16i to 18* upwards ; wool-roller», 163 to 18a per week and rations ; boys for picking fleeces, £1 and rations : boys of 14 from 7s to 8s per week ; nurse girls, 8« to 93.
