A Bigh of relief fluttered from the congregation. The pastor scratched hia head, eyed his big toe, and then enquired : t " An' was you a plantin'of pepper, Brother Jimson ?" • > ( " • "I was." fi'.i "Well, sir, 1 renounce you nofrguilty. Dar ain't nuffin in the Bible 'at says a man shan't ' swar when he's a- sowing poper, nohow." Whereupon the meeting adjourned, and the members all shook Brother Jimson'a hand. It ia lucaoured that the witnesses who testified against him are to be tried next for not knowing more about the doctrines of tho church. — Louis villo Courier Journal. ' *
