Slesser, Railway Camp, near Tapanui: — My first is pronounced by one letter; My second—why, yes, tis the same; But if they're combined they'll be better, A» then a swift bird_ they will name, That inhabits Australia's wild bushlandi, Far away from th« haunts of mankind, Save the Kellys and some other loose bands, Who find there a home to their mind. My third, just ag sure's I'm a sinner, Always misses the early train, Is always behind time for dinner, But never was caught in the rain. Now I think that I've rendered fchia lucid To every inquisitive mind; Discover it, then, and a deuedd Good motto in it you will find. 772. Word Square.—By J. P. M., Taieri Beach :— 1, Fnel; 2, idle; 3, like; 4, a dwelling. 773. Charadb.—By J. F. Morris, Purakanui:— I travelled by the woodlands, And up the Blanting hill I saw the first above me, So peaceful, calm, and still. I hastened down the valley, Though my second now had gone; But with my first above me, I quickly walked along. Then when my second oame again, I reaohed my journey's end: All thro' the dark and alumb'ring night, My whole had been my friend. 774. Pyramid Puzzle.— By Fitzgerald 8., Kuri Bush: — 1 1, lam always in the ground. 2, In every kitchen I am found. 3, I hold your silver and your gold. 4, I name a town where goods are sold. Centre letters read down name a town in Southland.
