PROVINCIAL ITEMS.
Invercargill, August 21st. A fatal accident at New River Heads is supposed to have happened on Tuesday evening last. A fishing.hooker, manned by two men — one a German named Barman, the other a Londoner (name unknown) — came in and got aground on the north beach, where she was in danger. It came on to blow during the night, and next morning tho craft wai discovered on her beam-ends on the Mokomoko bank. The men were not to be seen, and have not turned up since. Auguat 22ad. A Railway Employes' Benefit Society was formed here last night; over 250 joined. Mr Conyers accepted the presidency. August 26th. Mr M'Culloch, R.M., ruled to-day that No. 10 of the Railway Bye-laws, which provides that a passenger entering a train without a ticket shall pay the full fare from the station from which the train originally started, was bad, owing to its utter unreasonableness. A Licensed Victuallers' Association haa been formed here. Oamaru, Auc»mt 22nd. At the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day Rachael Shaw and Alex. Gordon pleaded guilty to bly grog-celling, and were fined respectively 125 and LlO. Judgment in two other cases will be given next week. Roxburgh, August 2Gth. At ■Rongerburn y«stsrday Mr E. Tubaian, of Moa Flat, and Mr Herbert, of Ardmore Station, were nominated tor James Riding.
