SIGMA.— We published the table for discover, ing a person's age not very long ago. \ ANSWERS. Ignoramus asks:— l. Can school committees exclude the public from their meetings ? 2. Can the teacher claim admission to their meetings, and if so, can he take part in their discussions ? 3. Assuming committee meetings to be private, is a committee-man at liberty to devulge what transpires at the meetings ? Answers :— l. The Education Act does not stipulate that the meetings of school committees shall be open to the public. It therefore rests with the committees to exclude or admit the public to their meetings as they think fit. 2. If the school committee of a district decide that the public is not to ba admitted, the teacher cannot claim the privilege of admission. In any case he cannot take part in any discussion arising out of any matter brought before the committee. 3. It altogether depends upon the nature of the business transacted at the meeting. W. L. S.— The newspaper term " Bohemians" refers to the semi-detached writers on the Press, who have no regular position on the staff of any journal, but support themselves as best they can by occasional contributions. Some years since a few of theße poor and brilliant writers in London, were wont to meet together statedly. The lives of some of them were rather shiftless. S. P.— St. Helena, an island in the South Atlantic, about 1200 miles from the Lower Guinea Coast, belongs to Great Britain. RABBITER.— The following is a good recipe to waterproof and prevent cracks in boots. Take 4 oz. of suet, 8 oz. boiled oil, and a piece of resin (fiddler's rosin) the size of a marble ; dissolve with heat, and brush over when ■warm. Black varnish brushed well into the aoles of the boots is recommended. M. M.— Dr Ahn's system is i aid to be the best for learning French. The Firat Course is published at Is 6d. H. QUERIST.— The great wall of China was commenced about 214 8.C., and completed in ten years, several millions of men. being engaged in its construction.
