Reputations.

BALCLUTHA.

The Mayor of Balclutha (Mr Hogg), and Crs Mason and Dunne, waited on the Hon. Mr Macandrew on the 31st ultimo, in reference to the advance of LIOOO promised to the Borongh to assist it in repairing the damage done t^he streets by the recent floods. The Mayor informed the Hon. Mr Macandrew that the LIOOO loan promised to the Borough was not yet forthcoming, the last communication in reference to it being dated January 2nd, and intimating that it would be forwarded when the agreement was signed. As their exchequer was very low, the Borough Council would be glad to know when they might be in possession of the money. The Hon. Mr Macandrew: The hitch is with the Audit Office, which has to see that the necessary bonds are prepared, but there should not be any great delay. I will telegraph immediately to Wellington, urging the payment of the money at orce. The Mayor observed that it might be in the hon. gentleman's recollection that he was good enough to promise that the Borough should have the use of an engine and trucks for haulage purposes, but up to the present no instructions to that effect had been given to the Railway Department. Cr Dunne said it should be mentioned that the Railway Department was very anxious to carry out instructions and to further the work.

The Hon. Mr Maoandrew replied that the necessary instructions should issue at once. The deputation then thanked him for his courtesy and withdrew.
