o amaru, January 13th. r AiuU fresh fires have been occasioned by . :d I j-^roux railway engines. Hards' Hotel, Duntroon, had a narrow \ -escape of being destroyed by fire last night, sthrough two explosions of kerosene lamps while 'they were being blown out. The flames were •extinguished with some difficulty. No great <*Hnage was done. InvciicargiliL, Janu9ry 11 tr. ' Mr T. M. Macdouald, Crown Prosecutor, had an extremely narrow eseape^ to-day. It was his intention to visit Oteramika, and with this object he hailed a cab and proceeded on the .toad. When passing down Tay street the cabhorse took fright at some object and immediately bolted. During its course down the ' itreet the cab came to grief, and Mr Macdonald fend the driver (Martin Hughes) were thrown violently to the ground. .Fortunately Mr Macdonald escaped comparatively unhurt. The ■driver, however, was cot so fortunate : besides a Very severe shaking he received several cuts, Irom which he will take days to recover. January 13th. At the Police Court this morning, a ycung man named Robertson, aged 19, was charged with forging and uttering a cheque for L 6 si.
