COMPENSATION CLAIM AGAINST

THfi CORPORATION.

Mr Donald Reid, on behalf of Mr William Taylor, has forwarded to the City Council a claim of £2375 as compensation for damage and loss sustained by him arising from the Silverstream waterworks now being carried on by the Corporation. The following is a copy of the claim, annexed to which were plans and a description of the boundaries of lands alleged to be injuriously affected by the works : — To tho Corporation of the City of Dunedin. Whereas certain public works, that i« to say, a water race or sqtieduct for obtaining a supply of water for the city of Dunedin and its suburbs, from the river called the Silverstream and its tributaries, and other (.mailer streams flowing through portions of the lands which the said race or aqueduct will intersect, are about to be excuted by your authority by which certain lands described below, in which I have an interest as leaseholder, will ba injuriously affee'ed by the said works by reason that I will be deprived of the use of the water which flows in the Whare Creek and other streams which tho said race or aqueduct williatersecs, which water I now use for driving a turbine wheel »a a motive power for my flax-mill and rope factory, and also for manufacturing and domestic purposes, and for farm stock. And whereas if ths waters flowing in the above streams are divertid, my flax-mill and rope-spinning factory will be rendered useless, and the capital I have expended in erecting them and in bringing them to their present state of perfection will be ent rely lost, and I will otherwise suffer serious loss. Wherefore thin is to give notice that I claim the sum cf £2375 as compensation for all loss and damigo to mo arising out of the construction of the siid w^rks. Given under my hand, at Danedin, this 7th day of January, 1879. William Taylor Description of lands injuriously affected, and tracing of samo, attached hereto. The matter was referred to the Water Supply Committee, without comment.
