INTERPROVINCIAL.
Wellington, November 21st. Mr C. T. Catkin, of tho Treasury, has been appointed Assistant- Controller and Auditor, while Mr Gavin takes Mr Batkin's place as Accountant of the Treasury. Mr Heywood is made Accountant under the Land Tax Department, of which Mr John Sperry is Chief Commissioner. Mr M'Lean, Provincial Auditor, is appointed to the SubCommissionership of Auckland; Mr Martin, Government Auctioneer, Sub- Commissioner for Otago ; and Mr A. M'Kay, Commissoner of Native Reserves, Sub Commissioner fur Nelson. The valuation under the Land Tax will begin early in December, and it is understood th.at it will be ready for enforcement ia Januaiy. The Chronicle to-ni^lifc says : " The organisation of the Land Tax Department is proving, we understand, a work of considerable magnitude. The time required to complete tbe valuation being limited, and tho finding of qualified men as valuers being difficult, it is intended to divide the Colony into six districts — three in each island. Commencing in tho North, the first district will be Auckland, the second Hawke Bay (including the County of Cook), tho third Wellington (including Taranaki). In the South, the first will be Nelson (including Marlborough), the second Canterbury (including Westland), the third Otago (including Southland and Stewart Island). Each of these districts will be in charge of a subcommissioner." Five thousand acres of land in the Tuapeka East Mining District have been set apart for mining purposes. The following land in the Provincial District of Otago is gazetted as 1 eserved for a recreation ground :— All that parcel of land containing 50 acres, more or less, situated in the Town or Gore, being block numbered XIX, bounded towards the north-west and south by the Waikaka River, and towards the north-west by the railway reserve, as the same is delineated on plans deposited in the Provincial District Sur. vey Office, Dunedin. Fo ember 25th. Tho Government have sent to the AgentGeneral to send out an instructor for a Deaf and Dumb Asylum. In the Divorce Coxirt today the case Ryley v. Ryley came on again. This case was beard last week, but was postponed, as a doubt arors as to the domicile of the respondent, the question being, whether if he had forfeited or super* seded his domicile ia New Zealand by tweuur*
