EVENING THOUGHTS. When the shadows of the *renbg Come creeping slowly on, And the stillness all around ua Proclaims that day is gone, And we hear the distant murmur Of wavelets toft and low ; Then we think of the dear ones. We loved long ago. When the twilight long has faded * Into the still, calm night, And all the landscape round ua ; Is bathed in pale moonlight : We think of daya departed, Of friends we need to know ; And we fancy we nee them Ab they were long ago. When the evening bretie thai -wloßpeW - ' In * low sweet undertone, < > - < i Has died away in oilenoa, > \ •• .: And all is still and lone r ,< * v ■■' Ah I then is memory bmy , Bright fancies come and go r We again dream the old dreams- v We dreamed long ago. % ' ' ' How well we lore to linger . In memory's fairy bowers ; "" The past seems a bright vista' Of sunshine, love, and floweri t 'Tis best so — and as evening's Sweet hours pass quiet and slow, . , We think of the dear ones We lored long ago.
