Monday's Lyttelton Times says :— " A vessel, we learn, waß seen floating, keel up, off the Ninety-mile Beach, near Ashburton, about a fortnight ago. At one time she was within about 40 chains of the shore, and he wind being off the land, there would have been no difficulty in getting a boat off to her had there teen one theie. One adventurous youth was so seiz-d with the desire of possessing himself of a prize, that he proposed swimming off to the vessel with a rope, in order to keep her from drifting away. He was, however, pro\ ailed upon not to make the attempt."
