DEFERRED PAYMENT LAND IN WAREPA.

The following report of Messrs Clark and Thomson, bearing on the opening of land under deferred payments in the district of "Warepa, N was received and adopted at the meeting of the Waste Lands Board on the 27th:— Dunedin, 27th March, 1878. To the Land Board of Otago. < Gentlemen— We have the honour to report that we have gone over blooks VII, IX, X, and XI, Warepa district. We consider the following sections are tultablefor deferred payments, viz. :— 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, JO, 12. 13, 14, 15, 17. 19. 20, and 21, block X ; flections 18, 25, anil 26, block IX ; sections 1, 2, S, 4, and 5, Hock VII ; fcod section 12, block XI. We would, therefore, recommend that these sections— 24 in number—be opened as deferred payment sections ; and that the other lections be sold by auction at £1 per acre. We would draw the attention of the Board to the fact that the greater number of the sections which we consider suitable for deferred payment are very small in area, two of them being' under 60 acres, and several Otheri not much larger. We may state that we consider such small sections are quite unsuited for this part of tbe country, and that- in surveying thesa small areas an unnecessary expense has been incurred. We believe that the smallnets of the sections will, to some extent, act against the profitable occupation of the district, because in terms of the 57th section of the Land Aot one person can take up only one allotment. "We would, therefore, take the liberty of .suggesting that the Bo*rd," before opening the land for sale, should consider the expediency of putting two or njoro of the Biraller allotments into one, and thus making; obe fair-sized allotment. ' We would also direct the attention of the Board to the, fact that in surveying the land, little regard his been paid to selecting suitable lines for fencing purposes. ■ We noticed some boundaries of sections which ft would be very difficult indeed to fence. <We Believe | that, with the exercise of a little more care, this serious inconvenience might have been very much essened. ■ Wo have the honour to be, Gentlemen, Your most obedient servants, Hbnry Clark. a " , James W. Thomson.

P.S.-Since writing <tho above, we understand that block VII ia outside the Hundred. iThe Board cannot, therefore, comply with our recommendation at present. H.C. J.W.T.
