TOKOMAIRIRO AGRICULTURAL SHOW.
Committee of Management: — Mr James Duthie President; R. W. Capstick, Vice-President ; and MetBTS Patent Murray, Bryce, Hewitson. Ing] is, Black, Sutherland, Porter, Salmond, M'Donald, Hamilton, Hislop, Lindsay, Goodall, and Fra«er.
The Tokomairiro Farmsrs' Club's annual show of live stock, dairy produce, and agricultural implements was held on Friday, the 9th instant (Prince of Wales Birthday), and although not one of the most successful, It was highly satisfactory. There was a considerable falling off in the number of the exhibits in some of the classes:, especially the cattle, which was entirely owing to the scarcity of grass during the spring. Owners of stock do not care to exhibit unless they are in good condition. The show was held on the Reserve granted by the Government to the Club for this purpose. Great credit is due to the Committee, alao to Mr J. C. Garvon, the Secretary, for the able manner in which the arrangements were carried out. There were two rings provided, so that the horses and cattle could fee judged at the same time, and there was consequently no confusion, which enabled the judges to get on steadily with tneir work, and by halfput 3 all the awards were made known. During the greater part of Ihe day the weather was close and sultry, and in the afternoon the wind blew frou? the N.W. directly into the booths, which at once took the coverings off. There was one publican's booth upon the ground, kept by Mr Fred. Bastings, of the White Horse Hotel. The lunch catered by Host B<t«tings was served in Mr James Inglis's barn, a short distance from the ground, where the Judges were entertained by the members of the Club. Not the least interesting feature of the show was the dairy produce exhibited in St. George's Hall, there being a great number of entries. We, however, missed the customary display of fancy-made butter, but the illness of ths parties who usually contribute this accounts for its absence. The cheese shown was all of such excellent quality, that the Judges had the ere&test difficulty in awarding the prize. Every exhibit could be highly commended. There was a fine show of hams and bacon ; but the rolled bacon, in the opinion of the Judges, w»s not deserting a prize, and in consequence was withheld. The Milton Brass Band, under the leadership of Mr John Grant, was in attendance, and played a number of lively airs during the day. There were between COO and 700 present, and the gates reali«ed over £25, being £3 less than last year. The following is tho prize list :— CATTLE. Attending members of couimlttee: Messrs W.
