CRICKET.

(B? Electric Telegraph.) DUNEDIX V. PALMEESTON.

The cricketing festival on Saturday passed off most satisfactorily — particularly to Palmerston, who were again the victors. The Dunedin team was captained by Mr Coates, and Pahnerston by Mr J. Everest. Bunedin first appeared at the wickets, and scored 68 The Palmerstonites made 85, and as it was arranged that the match should be decided on the first innings, Duuedin was declared beaten by 17 runs The metropolitans went to the wicketa a second time, and when the stumps were drawn, three wickets had fallen for 58 runs. Clarke was one of the "not outs" for 20, and Archibald Cargill for 10. Archibald Cargtll was the highest scorer ol the Dunedin team, making 21 in the first innings— Cobden and W. Everest were the highest scorers for Palmerston. There was a good attendance, but the wind was a little toostronsr. In tbe evening a concert was held At the Palmenton town ball, in aid of the Indian Famine Fund. There wa» a crowded attendance, and it is hoped, therefore, that with private subscriptions, Palraerston will be able to make in total a not unworthy contribution. Several loctl and Dunedin amateurs gave able and much appreciated assistance.

A nwtch between the Second Eleven of the Dunedin Cricket Clnb and the University Cricket Club was played on the Oval on Saturday. The University Cricket Club had the assistance of Paramor, whom they have engaged as coach for the season. The nwtch resulted in favour of the University Cric-cefc Club by 64 runs— the total scores being Dunedin Cricket Club, 32; University, 96. T. Austin and Paramor bowled splendidly for the University, which will account for the very small score of the Dunedia Cricket Club A. Y.
