DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT CHRISTCHURCH.

Christchurch, November 12th. Shortly after 6 o'clock last night Burmeister's oyster rooms, and Baylie's Criterion Hotel, near the theatre, in Gloucester street, were totally destroyed by fire. During the height of the conflagration, the Lyttelton Times buildings adjoining were in danger, but, thanks to the admirable working of the Fire Brigade, and the Times staff, no damage was done. Burmeister, who is not insured, estimates his loss at £600. Baylie ia insured for £500 in the National, £250 in the New Zealand, £500 in the Standard, and £150 in the "Victoria. He estimates his loss at £2000 over and above the insurance. He had sold his business, but though the purchaser took part delivery on Saturday, the transfer had not been siguea. The fire yesterday waa first seen in a kitchen of Burmeister's Oyster Saloon. Origin unknown, as no one was in the house at the time.
