Waste Lands Board.

The regular meeting of the Waste Lands Board waa held on Wednesday. Present—The Chief Commissioner, Mr J, P. Maitland (in the chair), Messrs Butterworth, Clark, and Green, _ I The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COMPENSATION FOR IMPBOVEMENTS. Mr Henry Driver, on behalf of Alexander M'Nab. claimed compensation for determination of lease of Kun No. 111, Chatton district, for fencing and other improvements thereon. The woolmed was valued at f/om LBOO to LIOOO. The matter of compensation was referred to the Chief Commissioner for arrangement, and it was resolved—" That sections 16, 17, and 18, block XI., and section 2 of block XII., Chatton, advertised for sale on the sth September, be withdrawn for the present." MISCELLANEOUS. Mr Driver, on behalf of Alexander M'Nab, asked the Board to reconsider the proposed sale of certain sections under the deferred payment system.— The Board declined to grant the request. Mr G. Cook, on bebalf of J. E. Glover, applied to purchase sections 11, 12, 13, and 14, Dunback district. The matter had been referred to the District Land Officer, Naseby, and in reply he reported that, in accordance with his report of November 1874, there were objections to the sale of the sections, which were auriferous. Mr Lowndes applied to purchase the Rections in 1874. Mr Glorer stated that for years there had been no miner working on the land near which he resided. He would have no objection to the land being sold by auction. The matter was again referred to the District Land Officer to procure a plan mentioned in the report, and other particulars, with the view of having part of the land sold as land of special value. Messrs Reid and Duncans, on behalf of Edward Campbell, applied for permission to purchase sections 21, 25, and 31, block 111., North Harbour, and Blueskin district, under agricultural lease. — Approved. Messrs Maclean Brothers requested that section 34, block IX., Waikaka district, be reoffered at auction as land of special value. — Ie was resolved that section 34, together with sec* tion 28, be offered at the next land sale in the district.

The Warden at Arrow forwarded Mr E. Prior's application to purchase aectioas 1 and 2, block 111., Dart district, on deferred payments, with recommedation that sections 1 to 7, same block, be declared open under the agricultural lease regulations. It was resolved — "That the Warden's recommendation be forwarded to the Government for favourable consideration."

Mr James Whitburn's application to purchase faction 20, block 11., under deferred payment license, was approved. Mr William Labes, applied to purchase at LI per acre, sections 18 and 19, block X., Waitahuna West. It was resolved that the laud in question be sold aa land of special value at the upset price of 25s per acre. The following applications to purchase under deferred payment leases were approved : -William Gray, section 8, block 1., Wendon district; R» W. Nichols, sections 167 u> 170 inclusive, and 197, block 11., Tuapeka district ; William Smellie, section 18, block IV., Waitahuna East

Banger Valpy reported on applications by the undermentioned persons to obtain leases in block VIL, Rock and Pillar district, under section 54, subsection 5, of the Act :— Charles M'Lean, sections 10 and 11 ; John Dowling, sections 12 and 13 ;W. C. Hammond. The applications were granted, subject in the last case to the Chief-Commissioner satisfying himself as to the position of tha matter. Mr Joseph Preston applied for permission to purchase a portion of section 6, block V., Swinebnrn district, andjthe sheepwaah adjoining. The District L*nd Officer, Naaeby, recommended that the land be reserved until the coal area granted to Charles M'Ara is defined by survey. The Board declined to grant the application.

THE COASTGUARD RESERVE. The Seaside l!o;ui Board requested permission to purchase the north- west comer of Coastguard Reserve for the purpose of effecting an exchange of same with Mr Robert Gillies for a smaU pieoe of land adjoiniDg, being part of block 1., Otakia. It was resolved— "That the request be complied with, the Chief Commissioner to be requested to carry out the matter as may be arranged with the Eoad Board, price of land to be 205."
