TASMANIA.
From the last published returns of the Customs department we are glad to learn that the mineral -wealth of Tasmania is assuming a degree of substantiality that cannot but be regarded as of the first importance. The value of the minerals exported from Launceston for the past six months ended Juno 30th is given at £152,073: classed as follows :— Gold, 3656 oz., value £14,642 ; tin, 1347 tons, £89,987; tin ore, 806 tons 10 cwt., £36,284 ; pig iron, 2110 tons, £10,550 ; slates, 61,000, £610. The exports from Hobart Town during the same period amounted to £34,653, made up a3 follows :— Gold 143 oz., value £572 ; tin ore, 775 tons 10 cwt., value £34,081. The combined exports from the tyro ports, as given above, make the total value £186,724.— H0bart Town Mercury.
