KEEFTON".

KUMARA.

In the early part of the week we recorded that something was being done a little above the terrace at Murphy's Rush, that is near the river. Reports from the flat there state that several claims are doing satisfactorily well. At Murphy's Rush, since the deep shaft duffered, as recorded by us a day or two ago, another deep shaft has bottomed, and gives a prospect of 2grs to the dish. Those claims previous by on gold continue to be worked profitably, t'n this side of the river the returns are a little over an average, indicating a steady yield of gold. At the latest rush, near the Waimea Race, we hear of one claim giving prospects o£ 20grs to two dishes. A sixth share in one of the tunnel claims changed hands to-day for £50. We hear of a Bhare in a claim near the Duaedin claim changing hands at £200, or an advance of £70 on what it wa3 sold for about a month since. We think that it is now pretty clear that the goldfield is getting full justice done to it, and that the yields show that whilst there will be wages for all, these wages will not be very large. The fact of so many allowing themselves to be drawn off from what are considered paying claims to any place where something a little above ordinary returns is reported goes far, to prove this. — Kumara Times, May 26th.

THE BEACHES.

The " Charleston Herald" reports that the beaches at White Horse and Red Jacket Terraces are turning out splendid returns to claim-holders. During the past week two sales of claims were effected privately, one on Red Jacket Beach, £50, and the other on White Horse Beach, £40. One of the claimholder3 on Red Jacket Beach, recently made £3 for twelve hours' work. Reports from the other side of Fox's river state that the beaches in that part of the country are " looking up."
