THE LAWRENCE RACE MEETING. [By Telegraph.]

Lawbenos, March Btb. The Lawrence Annual Kace Meeting took place to-day. The attendance was about ICOO. The weather was beautiful. Before the commencement of the programme, the betting on the Maiden Plate was 2 tol against Entally, 4to 1 anything else. For the J. C. Handicap, Atlas was a warm favourite at even money; 6 to 4 being offered against Eob Eoy, 2 to 1 Glengarry. At 2 p.m. the Maiden Plate brought out five maidens, and the event resulted :—: — Maiden Plate, of 25 soys. Weight for age. One mile and a half . Mr T. Dwyer's Testimonial, 9st 111b (C. Monaghan) 1 Mr Coraau's Merrybird, 9st 61b .. " (Lynch) 2 Mr Curran'a Entally, lost lib . . . . (J. Laing) 3 Tambourini and Alice also started. Testimonial led throughout, winning easily by a I length and a half ; two lengths between second and third. Time, 3min. 6sec. Jockby Club Handicap, of 75 soys. Two miles. Mr F. B. White's b g Atlas, aged, Bst 21b (W. Wiseman) "..'1 Mr H. Goodman's eh h Glenga-ry, aged, Bst 61b (J. At the start Atlas was left several lengths in the rear; but he soon joined his horses, and "at the first turn Spinaway and Nelly King ran off.tLe course. Spinaway was, however, quickly brought back, and held a forward position throughout the race. Atlas went to the front at. a mile^ and maintained his lead, winning somewhat easily by three-quarters of a length. Glengarry was second. Spinaway was defeated* by 'a short head for third place. Time, 3mins.- 52secs. Goodman, owner of Glengarry,, entered a protest against Atlas for carrying more than his declared overweight. The protest is to be considered this evening. District Handicap. Every event was well contested, and the general satisfaction expressed must be pleasing to Mr Caleb Moore, the handicapper. A steam meiry- go-round, by which the owners were coining money, was, a feature of the miscellaneous subsidiary amusements. ' March 9tb. To-day's races were as well attended as yesterday. 1000 were present. The weather was fine, and each race was well contested. Hovel Handicap Race, of 40 soys.
