EAST TAIERI.

Since my last, the cutting of the various crop j has been going on steadily. In many places they have finished cutting, and the leading-in is now the order of the day nearly everywhere. A few are threshing oat of the stook, which process the good dry weather has greatly helped. The returns are, on a whole", jusfc about the average of former years ; but this does cot refer to the land touched by the floods, the bulk of the crops on which is nearly destroyed — both what grain there is and the straw also being dirtied by the sludge of the water, and is yellow, neariy black in many place 3. Where the crop was in the water, the stacks have the appearance of old, weathered stack 3, and the grain ia only second- class, and plenty of it good for nothing. The grass fields have recovered a Uttle from the effects of the wet, but, as I before stated, grass, \i is allowed, will become very scarce, and a good many are effecting a clearance of stock before the winter. Although the losses are net as yet fully known, yet each one has a fair estimate of the damage done, which, if totted up, would form a respectable whole, and would go a good way to prevent, by a proper system of drainage aud embankments, a recurrence of the late disasters. However, the County. Council has moved in this matter, and that they will take prompt action, is the wish of most of those affected.
