THE HODGKINSON GOLDFIELD. It is fortunate that this goldfield has been supplied with machinery before traffic is stopped by the summer rains. Three machines are already at work, while five others are on the ground and in course of erection. The crushings reported to date are very satisfactory. A crushing by Martin's machine of 65 tons of stone from the Explorer prospecting claim yielded over 6^ ounces to the ton. A trial crushing by the same mill of seven tons from the Devon and Cornwall Reef gave a return of 13 ounces to the ton. A parcel of 80 tons from the Pioneer Reef has given 3^ ounces to the ton. A crushing from the Kihgsborough p.c. is stated to have yielded an average of six ounces ; and stone which has been operated upon from the Maori Chief claim promises an average yield of four ounces. The Explorer p.c. and Pioneer reef claim abovementioned are two of the reward claims granted to Mulligan and party. Eight crushings from various other reef claims, making a total of about 250 tons of stone, averaged throughout about 3jj ounces to the ton. 1200 ounces of gold, conveyed to port by escort from Thornborough, are en route to Sydney by the s.s. Leichardt. THE PALMER has nothing sensational to report. The alluvial, principally in the hands of Chinese, is being worked in a quiet plodding way, but affords few largo, finds. Additional machinery is being erected on different parts of the field. CHARTERS TOWERS. The mills are all at work, and its reefs are believed to have given a larger total yield of gold during the last quarter of 1876 than during any similar period since Charters Towers was opened. The field is well supplied with superior machinery of varied kinds, and fresh importations ' are constantly taking place. THE ETHERIDGE. The latest crushings reported from Georgetown make a total quantity of stone from ten reef claims of 804 tons, giving a, return of 1144 ounces of gold.
being an average on all the crushings of nearly 1% ounces to the ton. GYMPIE. The most important news from Gympie this week is not of an encouraging nature. The shareholders in the Gympie Quartz Mining Company are considering the advisability of dissolving the company at the end of the current half-year, because of the unsteady support given to their machine, and the uncalled for outlay in new boxes and plant demanded by the public.
