NORTH-EAST VALLEY.
MUNICIPALITY AGITATION.
About 50 persons attended a meeting held at North-East Valley on the 20th, to receivathe report of the Committee elected at a previous meetinpr. vp forming a Municipality, Mr Fraser In the Chair.
THE NAME.
The hon. secretary, Mr Short, reported on behalf of the Committee that the Municipality should be called North Dunedin, and that the following townships should be the boundaries— viz., Opoho, Maybank, North-East Valley. Calton, Ferguslie, Abbotsford, and lower end of the North-East Valley, including Nor manby. Moved by Mr Caldeb, seconded by Mr Alex. Donald, that the name of the township be North-East Valley. Amendment by Mr Folkes, seconded by Mr Saundebs, that the name be North Dunedin.
The amendment was carried and the report adopted.
PETITION.
In regard to a petition signed by 100 ratepayers, Mr Holmes asked how many resident householders had signed the petition, The Chairman stated 80. DEPUTATION.
Resolved that the following gentlemen form the Deputation to wait on the Superintendent —viz., A. J. Burns, Esq., M.H.R., Allan Holmes, Esq., Messrs A. Sutherland, O. S. Reeves, Folkes, Glendining, and the Chairman, Mr Fraser.
Mr HowtE.s moved, and Mr J. W. Duncan seconded, that instructions be given to the Committee to wait on the Road Board, and get all the neoessaty information re expenditure and receipts of the districts. — Carried. Votes of thanks were recorded to Mr A. J. Burns, Mr Short, the Hon. Secretary, and Mr Allan Holmes.
