A Republican has been elected to the National Assembly as the representative for Marne et Loire. , President Macmahon has been visiting the Northern Departments, and in replying to an address presented to him expressed his determination to pursue his mission with firmness, but at the same time with a due regard to the opinions and interests of the moderate men of all parties. The Journal dcs Debats haa been warned for having said that whoever was not Republican was an adherent of the Empire. The German and Austrian ambassadors have presented their credentials to Marshal Serrano, as chief of the Spanish Executive Government, and given expression to cordial good wishes and assurances. M. Guizot, the eminent French statesman and historian, is dead. September 16th. The Great Yorkshire Handicap was won by Mr Ernes's Louise ; Mr A. C. Barclay's Bertram being second, and Mr O. Alexander's Thunder third. George Frederick, the late Derby winner, was scratched. September 18th. Sir George Berkeley's appointment as Governor of Western Australia is contradicted. September 19th. The Queensland mail was delivered on the 17th, and the San Francisco (Mikado's) next day. The Turkish loan of sixteen millions was subscribed at £43 10a. It was considered a great success. In wool sales prices continue firm. The corn market is languid. Home deliveries are large. Paris, Spptember 18fch. The trial of the accomplices in the escape of Bazaine has terminated. The Governor of the fortress was acquitted. Vilette and Plantin have been sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and two others received slight sentences. September 19th. Marshal Macmahon has returned to Paris. His reception in the Northern Departments was cordial. Madbid, September 19th. The Carlists allege that the Czar of Russia has communicated with Don Carlos, expressing sympathy. Berlin, September 19bh. The Germans have expelled several Danes from Schleswig. New York, September 16th. Sanguinary disturbances have occurred at New Orleans, where the white population ousted Governor Kellog and installed a new Governor President Grant upheld Kellog, and ordered the rioters to disperse. September 18th. The insurgents at New Orleans have submitted. September 19 th. Governor Ke'.logg has been reinstated at New Orleans. SHIPPING. Arrived. — Carlisle Castle, from Melbourne.
