ROAD BOARDS.
CAVERSHAM.
The regular meeting of the Oaversham Road Board was held in the School-house on Thursday evening. Present— All the member. Mr Rutherford in the chair. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Mr Davison, who was appointed Assessor and Collector at last meeting, and who has acted in that capacity for several years, was present, and stated that owing to his time being fully occupied otherwise, he would be unable lo discharge the duties of the office, and consequently must decline to accept. Mr Cameron was appointed in his stead, and on the same terms. The contractors for the Government workshops paid to the Treasurer the sum of £9 towards the formation of Hillside Road. Mr Fox paid in subscriptions, to the amount of £16, in aid of the formation of St Peter street, Caversham. It was resolved to call for tenders, and proceed with the work at once. In answer to an application from Mr Jeffreys, forwarded through the Government, asking that certain closed" road-lines be vested in Miss Valpy and Mr Alan, it was resolved that no objection be offered to the transfer, provided the title to the road-lines be secured to the Board. A letter was read from the Provincial Undersecretary, promising a sum of £100 for completion of ditches and floodgates on the Anderson's Bay Road, on condition that the work was done to the satisfaction of the Provincial Engineer, when it was agreed that the Inspector submit specifications for the work to the Engineer, and, if approved of, that tenders be called for. A letter was received from the Clerk
to the Suburban Road Board, calling attention to the state of a piece of road leading into that district. The Board decided to allow the Suburban District Board full permission to repair the road. It was agreed to put drain tiles afc the other side of the cross street in Kensington, z-eferred to in a former minute— Mr Roberts undertaking to pay half the expense. The estimated expenditure from rates for next year was fixed as under : —Higher subdivision. £100, rate 6d per £ ; middle subdivision, £260, rate 6d per £ ; lower subdivision, £300, rate Is per £. The Board adjourned to 15th October. PORTOBELLO.
The meeting of the Portobello Road Board, adjourned from the sth, was held on the 16fch inst, Mr W. A. Wilson in the chair. Mr Bryce, against whom complaint was made at the previous meeting for obstructing a road at Sandymount, was present, and the Board having considered the matter offered terms which were accepted ; but the terms proposed by Messrs Weipers in their claim on account of the Sandymount road were refused by the Sub-committee, and the case was postponed till the next meeting of the Board. The estimates for the ensuing year Avere proposed, and after some discussion were carried. It was resolved that legal proceedings be taken to recover all arrears, and that Air Stout be retained to conduct the prosecutions. It was resolved to levy a rate of one shilling in the pound on the annual value for the year ending 30th August, 1875, the Clerk to proceed with its collection with due despatch. Having voted a small amount for surface work on Hooper's Inlet road, the Board proceeded to pass a resolution that the Inspector of Works for Sandy Mount be authorised to construct a beach track around Flounder Point, Hooper's Inlet, and that he proceed to cut and sell firewood from the Government reserve along the margin of section thirty-seven to raise the necessary funds. The clerk was instructed to get several conveyances from the Government to the Board of portions of road lines in Sandy Mount district, and the meeting closed.
PALMERSTON-.
The Palinerstnn Road Board held a meeting at their office on the 15th inst. The members present were Messrs W. A. Young (chairman). J. 0. Rowley, E. Swallow, G. Ross, D. Fleming, A. Ross, W. Oochrane, W. CMsholm, J. Milne, and Robert Hunter. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter from Messrs Barr and Oliver, in reply to Mr Miller's letter asking their opinion as to the crossing at Muddy Creek, stated as their opinion that no damage would be done to Mr Miller's land, It was proposed by Mr Hunter and seconded by Mr G. Ross, that three mem. bers, with the Engineer, should inspect the crossing at Muddy Creek. A letter from Mr Welsh was read, requesting the Board to repair culverts on the Limekiln road. — Referred to the Engineer to report. A letter from the Hampden Road Board was read, requesting to be informed on what terms the Palmerston Road Board would take over that portion of road belonging to the Hampden Road Board leading to Coal I'oint. The Clerk was instructed to reply that on payment of £300 by the Hampden Road Board, and their portion of the £500 granted by the Provincial Government towards making thp said road, the Palmerston Road Board would make and keep in repair the said portion of road. A deputation from the Upper Shag Valley waited upon the Board respecting a foot-bridge, but through the absence of Mr John M'lCenzie, M.P.C., who had promised to explain the matter, the deputation withdrew. It was resolved that tenders be called for the Goodwood Bush road and Meadowbank road. The following accounts were passed for payment :— Messrs M'Leod and Biggar, £175 10s ; Mr D. Philip, £116 10s lOd. In consequence of the resignation of Mr W. A. Young, Mr J. C. Rowley was elected Chairman and Treasurer.
