DUNEDIN FIRE BRIGADE.
The regular monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at the Engine Station, on Monday evening last — Captain Wain, Chairman. The minutes of last meeting and practice were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr Josling, forwarding his resignation, which was accepted. The following letter from Messrs Guthrie and Larnach was read, enclosing cheque for £100 :«— Job Wain, Esq., Captain of the Dunedin Fire Brigade. Deir Sir— Herewith we have the pleasure of handing you our cheque for £100, to be applied as you deem best for the benefit of the members of tho Fire Brigade, and in recognition of the valuable services rendered by tho Brigade on the occasion of the fire at our premises on the morning of the 22nd current. Please also to accept our very best thanks. We remain, yours faithfully, (Signed) Guthiue and Larnach. It was unanimously carried that a letter of thanks should be forwarded to Messrs Guthrie and Larnach for their very handsome donation. It was carried by the Brigade that the above donation should be divided as follows :— £2s to be placed in the Sick and Accident Fund ; the several members who worked at the fire during Saturday aud Monday to be paid for their lost time, and the balance to be divided among the members of the Brigade. A letter was received from Messrs Shand, Mason, and Co., of London, enclosing bill of lading for a smoke jacket, &c, per Christian M'Ausland. Messrs Braithwaite and Hammond were reelected honorary members for the ensuing twelve months. Messrs Hastie, Stewart, Davys, and Bryan, were elected working members. It was proposed and carried that a letter of thanks should be forwarded to His Honour the Superintendent for his kindness and attention in carrying through the Bill for exempting fire brigades from jury duties ; also one to Mr Haggitt, for his kind assistance in drafting out the said Bill. It was arranged that the officers should procure a distinguishing badge for Dr fiakeweli, honorary surgeon to the Brigade, to prevent the police stopping the Doctor at fires from communicating to the Captun or other officers of the Brigade. Mr Charles Robertson's notice of motion to alter bye-law 17 was passed. The sixth anniversary of the Brigade is to be celebrated on October Ist in the usual manner — by a torch-light procession and supper. The committee appointed to carry out the same are to meet on Friday evening next, at S o'clock. Mr Archer presented a framed photograph of the fire at Messrs Guthrie and Larnach's to the Brigade. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Archer for the same. The meeting then broke up.
