TRIP OF THE LUNA.
The object of the trip upon which the Government steamer Luna is now engaged is to have the sites of the new lights fixed, and Captain Johnson, of the Marine Survey Department has been entrusted with the duty of selecting tkeae sites. The Lund left Port Chalmers early on Saturday evening, and it was intended that she should go thence to the Nuggets, where she would remain on Sunday, afterwards making for Stewart's Island, where the little colony of Shetland Islanders placed there some time ago by the Provincial Government, under the Special Settlements Act, will be visited. It was iutencled that Mr Macandrew, the Superintendent, should have accompanied the Luna, but neither he nor any member of the Provincial Government has been able to get away. It is understood that Mr_ Stout, M.P.0., who is a passenger, will visit the Shetlanders, and will furnish the Government with some report with reference to them. From Stewart's Island the Luna will proceed to the west entrance to Foveaux Strait, where the Government desire, if possible, to iix a site for alighthouse. Thence she willprocecd to Preservation Inlet, and work_ her way north, giving opportunities for the inspection of the principal sounds on the West Coast. If possible, some of the passengers will be landed at Martin's Bay, including Captain Hutton, who will visit the settlement, and walk overland to Queenstown. The Luna has a large number on board, amongst whom are Alajoi fieaphy, V.C., Major Campbell, Clerk to the House of Eepresentatives ; Mr G. B. Parker, M.H.R.; and Mr J. Knowles, Under-Secretary. At the special request of the General Government, Mr A. H. Burton, the photographer, has taken his passage by the Luna, and will photograph some of the beautiful scenery of the West Coast.
