The Agent-General, Mr Verdon, has been instructed to protest against the deportation of Communists to New Gale-, donia, August 24th. Parliament is engaged -with the Esti* mates ; there is considerable skirmishing, The trial of Captain Harrison for the loss of the Hector, in the West Channel, through alleged negligence, resulted in his acquittal. Tenders by a Ballarat firm have been accepted by the Government for the construction of ten locomotives, less wheels and axles, for £2,900 each. The Hour and wheat market is easier, The maximum prices are — flour £1G j New Zealand wheat, 5s 6d ; oats, 3s 4id,
