The House then went into Committee of Supply. On the item, " Wardens, five at L 450, two at L4OO, and one at LIOO, L 3200," under the head " Goldfields." Mr ALLAN moved that the amount should be reduced by L 350. After discussion, the item was passed as printed. The following items were passed :—: — Receivers, LI 850 ; 5 bailiffs, L 825 ; 2 inspectors of depasturing districts, L 312 10s ; 2 Chinese interpreters, L 325 ; travelling expenses, L 50 0; fuel and light, Ll5O ; stores and furniture, LSO ; temporary accommodation, LIOO ; printing, advertising, and stationery, Ll5O ; incidental expenses, LIOO. Under the head "Road Engineers," the following items were passed :— Chief Engineer, L 42 0; 1 District Engineer, j L 325 ; 2 District Engineers, L 565 ; Assistant Engineer, L 15 0; Draughtsman, LllO ; Railway Manager, L3OO ; apprentice, L4O ; travelling expenses, L3lO ; printing and stationery, L3O. Under the head "General Road Board," the following items were passed :—lnspector: — Inspector of Works, L 237 10s ; Draughtsman, L 35 9s 8d ; assistant, L 95 ; incidental expenses, LSO. Under the head of "Bluff Harbour and Invercargill Railway," the following items were passed : — Wage3 to platelayers and repairers, L 105 0; sleepers, L9Ol 03 ; repairs to culverts, L 14 0; repairs to Bluff wharf, L 75 ; station-master, Invercargill, L 422 10s ; station-master, Bluff, LI 7O ; guard and porters, L3OO ; books, tickets, stationery, printing, &c. , LGO. The following were passed under the head of " Oreti Railway :"— Wages to platelayers and repairers, L 100 8; incidental expenses, LSO ; station-master, Winton, L 16 5; guard and porters, L 27 5; roadside platforms, LSO ; erection of turntable at Winton, LHO; ballasting, LSOO. The sum of L 2021 4s was voted for the working of engines and repairs to rolling jstock on the Oreti and BlufF Harbour Railways. The item "Compensation to Thomas Murray, L 175," after discussion, was lost on the voices. On the item " Water Works Guaranteed Interest, L 1000." A long discussion followed, and the item was then passed as printed. THE SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES. Mr GREEN moved, " That an address be presented to flis Honour the Superintendent, requesting that he will be pleased to cause the sum of L2OOO to be placed on the Supplementary Estimates, for the purpose of completing the road from Port Chalmers to Blueskin." The motion was lost on a division.
