LABOUR EXCHANGE.
The following is the monthly report of Mr Colin Allan, the Agent of this Institution :—: — The number of applicants entered in the Employers' Application Book for the month ending 27th Ootober was 70. The number entered in the Servants' Application Book for the same time was 77. The number engaged was 57, consisting of farm servants, shepherds, domestic servants, station hands, labourers, &o. The demand for farm servants, shepherds, and female servants, has been very brisk during the month. Of the immigrants who arrived by the J. N. Fleming on the 26th inst., there were 29 engaged-on the 27th and 28th, viz., 16 female servants, 10 farm servants, 2 shepherds, and 1 nurse. Men and women suitable for the wants of the province, and especially for the country cUitriotf, will always, meet with ready en-
gagements, The ourrent rate of wages Is ro follows :—Farm servants from L4O toL4S per annum with rations j female servants, L 25 to L3O; female cooks, L 35 to L4O; dairy maids, L 35;3 5; shepherds, from L 45 to LSO; gardeners, 20s per week; day labourers, 18s to 20s per week, with board.
