WASTE LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Waste Land Board was held o l Wedne d iy. PresentMessrs Thomson, Reid, and Hughes ; the Chief Commissioner Mr J. T. Thomson, presiding.

Mr Hugh Calder applied to purchase sections 4 and 3, block 11. , Waikawa, at the upset price. Resolved to allow valuation for improvements at the next sale.

Mr Robert Brown offered to purchase sections 6, 37, and 38, Cromwell, at the upset price. The application was not granted, the land not being open for sale.

A report by Mr Arthur on a recent sale at Cromwell, with reference to Mr Smitham's biddir g, was read. Mr James M'Kay, at a previous meeting of the Board, requested that the reserve on section 10, block I, be withdrawn. The matter was referred to the Roads and Works Department, which did not offer any objections, and it was resolved, that the land should be advertised for sale at the upset price of LI per acre. Mr Eccles requested the Beard fo warn persons who have received permission to cut flax on Crown lands that these permits do not extend to lands applied for, and on which the deposit has been paid. It was reselved that the Chief Surveyor be directed to urge the contract surveyors to survey Mr Eccles's land without delay.

Messrs M'Kay and Co. applied for a jetty site opposite sections 9, 10, and 11, block XV, Queenstown. The application was granted, but without exclusive privilege.

Mr E. H. Carew made application to purchase an acre of land near Naseby, and on part of which his residence is situate. It was resolved that the land be offered for sale by auction, the applicant to be allowed valuation for the improvements effected by him. Mr Logan, Telegraph Inspector, being about to sell the olr l post-office at Queens - town, and which is situated upon Crown Land, desired to know upon what terms the purchaser of the buildings could buy or lease the ground. He was requested to remove the building. The appointment of Messrs Hughan, Irving, and Innes, as Rangers of Hundreds, to receive assessments, and who had to find sureties each to the extent of LIOO, was made.

The appointment of Mr Hammond as Ranger of the Waikouai i Hundred, without salary, was approved of. Plans of blocks VI. Waih«mo. 111. and IV. Dunback, HI. and IV. Greenvale, 111. Crookston, IX. Strath Taieri, and XXX. Frankton (part of the Police Paddock there), were approved of. Messrs. Connell and Moodie, for Mr Richard Lancaster, applied for a sawmill license for three years on the Beaumont River. The application was granted on the usual terms.

r lhe Forbury Park Company applied for a lease of the Ocean Beach sand-hills. Consideration of the application was deferred.

The application was granted, subject to the approval of the runholder, the price of coal a* the pit's mouth not to exceed 10a per too, and. the cost of survey to be paid by tht> applicants. Id reference to the ques'ion of application for unsurveyed lands, it was resolved that all surveys for the future be executed in terms of the 39 th section of the Waste Lands Act, 1866, and that authorised surveyors be informed accordingly. Messrs Hughan, Irving, and Times were appointed Rangers of Bush Reserves.
