DEPUTATION FROM CLYDE.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs Feraud and Hasfcie, from Clyde, accompanied by Mr Mouat, of Dunedin, waited on His Honour the Sxtperintendent on Tuesday, on various matters affecting the Municipality of Clyde. Councillor Feraud first referred to a resolution which had been passed by the Municipal Council, to the following effect : — " That this Council apply to the Provincial Governmerit for them to have surveyed by the Government Engineer a Water Channel, capable of carrying about 100 sluice heads of water, from the Lindis River to the Dunstan Flat.-"— Councillor Feraud stated that the matter was of great importance, as, even at present, there were 40 diggers producing 300 ozs. of gold weekly. Mr Mouat observed that, although there had been no preliminary survey, there was prima facie evidence in the fall of the Olutha, that there was sufficient fall to bring in the race< His Honour remarked that such being the case, and as the matter did not involve any great engineering difficulty, it might be considered to be disposed of. A second resolution was then submitted to the effect "that a deputation to wait upon His Honour the Superintendent and his Executive be appointed, to prepent, if possible, the removal of the Clerk of the Court, and also the removal of the Extended Jurisdiction Court from Clyde to Cromwell, and on other matters in connection therewith, and that Councillors Feraud and Hastie be and are hereby appointed such deputation." Councillor Feraud pointed out that Mr Pyke was to hold his court' of Extended Jurisdiction at Cromwell, which would be detrimental to the district, and lead to parties attending the Court having to travel an increased distance. - His Honour explained, that what had been done was in consequence of the recommendations of the Commission being carried out. He said that while seeking to study economy, it was not the desire of the Government to do so at the expense of the district. Mr Pyke, as better able to deal with the question, would be consulted, and the Government would, most likely, be guided by his opinion. The last resolution submitted was as follows : — " That this Council memorialise the Provincial Government to confer the present commonage area on the Incorporated Town of Clyde." Gouncillor Feraud stated the Government received no revenue from the Clyde Commonage, and it was desirable that the administration of it be vested in the Council. His Honour referred to the limited area belonging to Alexandra, and to the proposal by which part of the Clyde Common might be parted with to afford a reasonable extent to Alexandra, and mentioned that the Government were in treaty with runholders to get an extension of commonage at Wakatip, and other places. Councillor Feraud said it would be a great injustice to Clyde to take part of their common, and that one acre of the hill proposed to be taken from them was much better than the flat land. His Honour stated the Government had no power to give a title to the comimonage in favour of the Municipality; Jbut the Depasturing Regulations under the Goldfields Act would be enforced, which would put the matter in shape for proper administration, so that the quantity and kind of stock might be regulated. He promised to do what he could to meet the views of the deputation. After some remarks on the want of suitable commonage at Alexandra, the deputation retired,
