Wellington", Friday. A telegram was received at Auckland from Alexandra (Waikato) on the 6thinst. Six delegates from the Maori Kins; have just arrived announcing peace, and stating that the country will be opened directly. The Provincial officials have received notice to leave at the end of the year, the General Government having impounded the Customs duties to pay the Loan dividends. Sir George Grey arrived at Auckland on the 7th from Kawau. The same day a public meeting was held. A bombastic draft address was proposed, which was disapproved, and ihe meeting becoming excited, adjourned to the 9th, after appointing a Committee to amend. An amendment was adopted after some discussion. Monday. The Auckland Financial Statement was -made on the 11th. The programme of the Duke's visit to Auckland has been published, and embraces four days. The estimated cost is LISOO : two-thirds to be raised by public subscription. Tuesday. Their Honors Judges Johnson and Richmond, Colonel Peacock, Messrs James O'Neill and C. E. Haughton, have been appointed Commissioners to examine into Prison Management ; and to report, within six months, as to the desirability, &c. , of the formation of a Central Penal Establishment. Wednesday. The Superintendent, Dr. Hector, and other notables, have gone to Terawiti. Several parties of West Coast and Southern miners have arrived during th« last three days, and started prospecting.
