MEMORIALS.
A memorial from a widow woman, asking to be allowed to continue to graze three cows upon the Town Belt — they being the main support of her fatherless children — was referred to the Reserves Committee. A memorial was received from Mr G. Turnbull, and about 20 other residents in the Maori Hill neighborhood, supporting, as the most available, the line of road through the Belt, to the Waikari district, as recently approved of by the Council. RESERVES COMMITTEE. The following report from the Reserves Committee was received and adopted :—: — Your Committee beg to report having taken into consideration the Provincial Secretary's letter, of date 9th December, inti- | mating that the Government is prepared to resume the management of the Botanical Gardens, and that the services cf the present Gardener will not be required. Your Committee recommend that the offer of the Government be accepted, and that the engagement with the present Gardener be terminated forthwith. 2nd. The leases to the Chinese and to Mr John Barr — as suggested by the Solicitors : Your Committee recommend that instead of the usual leases, simple agreements be given in these cases, renewable from year to year.
