OAMARU DISTRICT ANNUAL PLOUGHING MATCH.
(From the Oamaru Times)
The Annual Ploughing Match, under the auspices of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association, came off as advertised, on Tuesday, on ground belonging to Messrs Holmes and Campbtll, neir Totara, about six miles from Oamaru. The weather proved moat favorable for the occasion, and a considerable number oi spectators were attracted to the spot, notwithstanding the inconvenient distance from town. The majority of these were on horseback. A great many pedestrians were prevented being present, for when it was discovered that the ground selected was further distant from town than was advertised, they retraced their steps in preference to undertaking so long a journey. The ground, on the whole, wa< suitable, although somewhat unequal, and some first-class work was exbibited. Through this inequality, however, some "crack" ploughmen were prevented from making such a good show as they might have done uid<.r more favorable circuru staucea. However, there was a capital field of competitors, no fewer than twenty ploughs having started. The Judges appointed were Messrs Todd, Palmers'on ; Johnston, Awamoko ; and Peattie, Kakanui. The entries were as follow: — OWNERS.
