Trade is dull, n«f »r as the interor U concerned, the carriers being stilt determined on holding out for a reduction o( tolls, knowing well that as the arc b^conunp «hnrt, and th • roads will soon be heavy, they can command a much higher rate than nt present. Their object now that there is little chance of an immediate reduction of the tolls, is, to await n rfce which w 11 be caused by the accumulation of {roods fc transportation and the setting in of wet weather. In the meantime, merchants nre sending erood* for the Dunstnn districts to Waikouaiti. by water, to be forwarded thence by drays. Goods for the Tuapeka districts are being sent to Waihola Lake, by drays. Prices of coods remain unaltered Little or nothing is beinu done in flour ; prices are nominal.
The following are the prices of leading articles: -
Adelaide flour, £24: (Mian. £18 to £19: Otaeo, £17 to £18.
Medium tea, in bond, per chest, £7 to £8 8s; do. do., half-chest- (scarce), £3 to £4 ; good, do., per chest, £7 to £8 10a; do. do., half -chest, £3 10s to £4.
Sujrar, in bond : Mauritius, Ist white, £46 ; 2nd do., £44: first counter, £37 10; second do., £35 to £3o; Company's Ist white, £47; 2nd do., £45; Crushed loaf, 6fd.
Spirits, in bond : Brandy, Martell's or Hennessy's, 8s 9d to 9s per gallon; MartelPs, case, full contents, 31s; Hennessy's, do, 325. Rum. 4s 6d to 6s, according to proof; Geneva, J.D.K.Z., per case, 13s to 14s. Whisky, per gallon, Ss 9d to 4s 6d ; do., case, 12a 6d per do7f>n. Old Tom, per case, 15s to 16s.
Ale, in bulk, (old}, £6 10* to £8 ; (new brew to land), £10 10* to £11 ; Stout, I3s to 14s 6d, according to brand.
Aromatic tobacco maybe quoted at Is 9i to 2s M : dark, at Is 3d to 2s 6d; and tens' at Is 6d to 2? 3d.
Butter: Cork, good, none; Colonial, 2a Id to 2s 2d. ' Cheese : English, none ; Colonial, Is S\d. Candles: Full weights, Is2d to Is 2Jd. Soap : Liverpool, no demand ; Sydney, none ; Hobson's Bay, No. 1, none; Dunedin, 40s.
Coey's and Sinclair's hams, Is lOd to 2s— scarce.
Bacon from recent shipments, nominally at Is lOd to 2s
Pickles, pints, 17s (fcarceV, salad oils, pints, 17s; half-pints, 11s 6d; jams, lib, Colonial, lls; English, 12s 9d; aaucee, hnlfpints, 10s 6d to 12s; castor oils, pints, 12s; half-pints, 7s. .
