DUNEDirf TRADE REPORT*
Witness Office, March 30, 1866. A moderate amount of business has been transacted since la«t leport, prices remaining unchanged. Stocks in the lmn<'s of importers have been increased by the auival of the Heleuslee and the Strathshey, from Britain ; but the articles in greatest request, such as bacon, hnms, butter, cheese. &c, remain very scarce. The demand from the West Coast for agricultural produce, lias the effect of keeping up prices, and as the crops in Otago are generally good, the farmers will have little reason to complain. Ale of the new brew, to land, has been placed at £10 10-s to £11.
The following are the prices of leading articles: —
Adelaide flour, £28; Chilian. £21 to £22 10s; Otago, £18 103 to £21.
Medium tea, in bond, per chest, £7 to £8 8s; do. do., half-chest (scarce), £3 to £4 ; good, do., per chest, £7 to £8 10s; do. do., half-chest, £3 10s to £4.
Sugar, in bond: Mauritius, Ist white, £45: 2nd do., £42; first counter, £33 to £35 ; second do., £31 to £32; Company's Ist white, £46: 2nd do., £43 to £44; Crushed loaf, 6|d.
Spirits, in bond : Brandy, kartell's or Hennassy's, 8s 9d to 9s per gallon ; Martell's, case, full contents, 31s; Hennessy's, do, 325. Rum, 4s 6d to ss, according to proof; Geneva, J.D.K.Z., per case, 13s to 14s. Whisky, per gallon, 3s 91 to 4s 6d ; do., case, 12s 6d per dozen. Old Tom, per case, 15s to 163.
Ale, in bulk, (old), £6 10s to £8 ; (new brew to land), £10 10s to £11 ; Stout, I3s to 14s 6d, according to brand.
Aromatic tobacco may be quoted at Is 9d to 2% M ; dark, at Is 3d to 2s 6d; and tens' at Is 6d to 2i 3d.
Butter: Cork, good, none j Colonial, 2a Id to 2s 2d. Cheese: English, none; Colonial, Is 3id. Candles: Full weights, Is2d to Is 2}d. Soap : Liverpool, no demand ; Sydney, none ; Hobson's Bay, No. 1, none; Dunedin, 40s.
Coey's and Sinclair's hams, Is lOd to 2s — scarce".
Bacon from recent shipments, nominally at Is lOd to 2s
Pickles, pints, 15s to 17s (scarce); salad oils, pints, 17s; half-pints, 10s 6dj jams, lib, Colonial, 11s; English, 12s 9d; sauce*, halfpints, 10s 6d to 12s; castor eils, pints, 12s; half-pints, 7s.
