At the wool sales to-day there was but a small attendance, and buyers showed no spirit in their biddings for hand washed and scoured wool. There was no demand for clean fleece which was in bad condition ; good clean wool sold well. Greasy was in less demand. Sheepskins went at a lower figure. The supply of cattle today was unequal to the demand. In the Assembly this afternoon Mr Buchanan questioned the Government relative to the Bertrand and Kinder tragedy, and a warm discussion ensued. The Dragon, from Bourbon, brings 7469 bags of sugars. In the Supreme Court, the Brown v. Hunter River Steam Company collision case has been finished. Verdict for the defendants. In the Ellworthy v. Harwood crim. con. case the verdict is for the plaintiff: damages, L2OO. In the Assembly the Treasurer made his financial statement. He estimates the revenue for the current year at L 2,084,511. Last year left a deficit of L 2671. This year is expected to leave a surplus of L 149.094. Stdney, 2nd March. Bushranging offences are largely on the increase. Bertrand has sent in a lengthy written statement to the Government, the nature of which has not yet transpired. The Assembly, in considering the Estimates, appear determined ou retrench-

ment, as nearly all salaries are being reduced twenty-five per cent , in spite of the Government's efforts to obtain the vote as proposed. The estimates novr before the Assembly are pervaded by a strong feeling of economy. The salaries of the Speaker of the Assembly and the President of the Council have been reduced by L2OO a-year each. Robberies by bushrangers continue at Berrirca. Three men robbed a public-house in Bathurst last night. Yesterday Constable Gilmore had a sharp encounter with two bushrangers near Bargo. Eight shots were exchanged, and the latter escaped into the scrub. The movement in favor of extended municipalities is gaining ground, and will probably result in legislative action. Wheat is very firm. Californian was sold to-day at B*. Adelaide flour is also very firm. Ca'ifornian and Chilian flour have gone up to L2l per ton for best sample?. _ An extensive payable gold-field has been discovered fifty miles to the westward of Cleveland Bay, in Queensland.
