The same auctioneer also sold a large parcel of Mauritius sugars at L 29 to L 43. The Chief Justice upheld the existence of the courts (?) and his decision drew very strong and offensive remarks from Mr Justice Gwynne. The annual steeplechase has been fixed for 7th September. The "Rev. W. Taylor, from California, is preaching nightly to crowded audiences. The papers are full of news of the Northern Territory expedition. They are unanimous in their opinion that Mr Finnis ought to be recalled. The official despatches are anxiously looked for. Moonta shares are selling at Ll7l. Wheat is quiet. There have been sales at 8s lid, 8s lHd, and 9s, at the Port. Country brands of flour have been sold at Ll9 10s. Town Hour at L2O. A letter has been received here from a well-known gentleman, resident at Murchison, in which he contradicts the previously reported discovery of gold in the Grey Ranges, but he reports the discovery of a copper mine in the Barrier Ranges — a claim in which has been taken from the Few South Wales Government. The ore shows a high percentage of copper. Townsend's pressed hay was sold to-day at L 6 5s to L 6 103 per ton, and Californian oats at 4s.
