Dugald Blue, miller, North Taieri. Debts, L 730 19s 5d ; assets, L 76 193 8d ; deficiency, L 653 193 9d. Cause 3of insolvency : Failure of water power in the mill formerly rented by the insolvent, at North Taieri, whereby he was unable to keep more than one pair of stones going, on an average four days a week, the proceeds being inadequate to the payment of expenses and rent ; seizure of his goods for rent, and t.'ieir sale for one-third of their value. Ho worth, Barton and Ho worth, Dunedin, solicitors.
The Appropriation Act of Otago, No. 2, disallowed by the Governor, was passed to enable the Provincial Government to repay to persons buying land on the terms of the Proclamation remitting the improvement tax, the amount of their purchase with interest afc the rate of 12J per cent, per annum.
A rather singular accident took place on Tuesday, in a produce store in George street, belonging to Messrs Grant. A large quantity of grain and other goods had been stored on the premises, when, almost without warning', the floor gave way, and the whole contents fell into the space beneath, the corrugated iron walls bulged out to suctx a degree as to render the taking down of the whole building a matter of necessity.
