THE CITY COMMISSIONERS.
The weekly meeting of the City Com* miasioners took place on Tuesday morning, in their offices, Princes street. There were present Mr Grey, in the chair, and Mr Chalmer.
The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter was read from the Provincial Secretary promising to place the sum. of L3O on the Estimates at the next session of Council to reimburse the Commissioners for work done on Jetty street. The letter was received.
Permission was granted to Mr Edward Lambtonto lay down a crossing in Hopestreet, subject to the usual conditions.
A letter was read from Mr E. Smith, factor to the Church Trustees, proposing to expend a sum of money iv removing a bank of earth at the junction of High and Clark streets, on condition that the same should be repaid within a given time. The letter was ordered to lie on the table.
A letter from Mr E. Pagan, asking that a footpath should be formed in Regent Road, in accordance with the Commis- - sioners' promise to a deputation of ratepayers made several weeks 3go, was referred to the City Engineer to be attended i to. The Town Clerk read the following report from the City Engineer : — - 18th July, 18 5. " GEHTLBSTEN—Herewith you have aa inventory of city property within my department. *' f have the honor to report that the day/ workerß have been employed during the past week in generally scavenging ; a°, also, ia execuing those works on my list, namely — Viev street, Maclajrgan street old drain, Forth place, fee , all of which are in a foi-wird state. When* c 'inp'eted the men will be removed to complete the footpaths leading to Ail Baint's Church, ia preparation for the opening of that ed.fise next we.E.
