A Different Lay.—" Have you the ' Lay of the Last Minstrel ?' " said a young lady to a young man at a country bookseller's. " No, we haven't any of that kind," said the obliging young man ; " but we have good fresh hen's eggs, that we can warrant were laid no longer ngo than last week."
The following characteristic anecdote is related of Lord Thurlow. He was one day hearing an appeal case in the House of Lords, when a Scotch advocate, who had beeu speaking for some considerable time, and showed no signs of leaving off, said, " I will now proceed to make a few remarks on the seventh point." " No," I'jn . if you do," said his lordship. I adjourn the hearing till Monday. He then took up his hat and rushed out oiiZie House."
