Except in one or two case* the shares of all our public companies are offered at par ; but there is no disposition to speculate even iv those pajiig dividends. Banks.— New Zeaiands have declined in Auckland to L 4 5i premium, an) are offered here at 1A prem — the lowest point they have reached during nearly twelve months. Otago's have changed hands since the arrival of t"~e June mail at par, but in small parcels only. Bank op Auckland— Havo slightly advanced and are quoted at 3s premium. Insuranob, Otaoo F. and M,— l have a parcel at 275. Gas.— Oftered at prices from L 3 53 to L 4, but no buyers. Debentures not offered herd. Steam. — No transactions. Investmeht and Building Societies. — Sales of L6O shares, brought at tha last meeting of the Second New Zealand Building Society, Ll6 10s premium. There is a continued demand for investments in small freeholds through the means of these societies; and the sums at command for advance seem inadequate to supply it.
