RETAIL PRICES.
June 4, 1864. The supply of most kinds of vegetables, except cabbages, has been equal to demand. Good cabbages are in request, and scarcely to be obtained. A few green peas have been brought in and retailed at Is per quart. Gardeners and greengrocers complain of the difficulty of obtaining remunerative prices for vegetables out of season, which are forced. The supply of apples is better, and a quantity of oranges have been received from Sydney, vii Melbourne. Fresh eggs are in demand, They are now Ss per dozen. Poultry art a little lower.
Bread and Flour.— Bread, Is 2d to lerSd 4R5 loaf. Biscuit (cabin), 6d per lb. Flour, 4d per ft.
Butchers' Meat.— Beef, 9dtolod. perlb; mutton, 9d. to lOd. ; lamb, 7s to Bs. per quarter ; pork, Is. per ft ; veal, Is. per ft. , > Dairy Produce.— Bacon, Is. to Is. 6d.; butter, fresh, 2s. 3d. to &s.6dj ditto, salt, ls. 4d.to Is. lOd. ; cheese, Colonial, Is. 6d. ; ditto. English, Is. 6d. , to - Is. Bd. j eggs, 'fresh, '6s • ditto. imported, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; ham, Is. 6d to 2s; milk,. 8d per quart
Fish.— Barracoutas, 6d to Is eachj flounders, Ss to 12s per dozen; gropers, 6stoloseach; ling, 2s 6d to 4s each j rock cod, Is to 2s each; garfish, 4s to 6s per dozen; herrings, 2s to 3s per dozen; silver fish, Is to 2s 6d per dozen; eels, Is to 2s perlb; crayfish, 9d to 4s each} oysters, Is 6d per dozen. Vegetables.— Artichokes, Is. each; asparagus, none; beans, broad, 2d per ft; do, French, 6d perlb; cabbages, 6d. to Is. each; carrots 3d. per bunch; cauliflowers. Is. each; celery, 6d to. ls each ; cucumbers, 6a to Is each ; leeks, 2s per doz ; lettuces, 2d. to 3d. each ; onions, dried, 3d. to 6d. perffi; ditto, green, 4d per bunch; parsley,4d per bunch ; pie melons, Is. to Is. 6d. each ; peas.
