EXHIBITION LOCAL COMMITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the Local Exhibition Committee was held on Wednesday at the Athenaeum. The members present were Messrs Vincent Pyke (chairman) C J. Ick, For-aith, Beverley, Daniels, A. R. Livingstone, Lloyd, C. C Quick, J. Logan R- Gillies, J S. Webb, (hon. sec.) The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
Mr Forsaith brought up the report of the Standing Orders committee. The report was received and the [meeting then proceeded to discus the regulations as submitted to them by the committee. The clauses were 34 in number. The quorum was fixed at five instead of seven as hereto/ore, and a few trifling alterations were made in some of the rules, after which the standing orders were approve') of and adopted. Mr Jjkvebley moved, and Mr Ick seconded that the rules should be printed. Messrs Lloyd, Logan and Gillies opposed this as an unnecessary expense. The votes were equal on a division taking place, and the chairman gave his casting vote against the motion which was therefore lost. The report of the Finance Committee bi ought up and printed in the repoi I f 'ast week's meeting was then considered.
In reply to the chairman, in connection with the rent of offices, Mr BbverliEY said that no office bid as yet been secured. The report was CijWi fio iwd and adopted. Mr Webb thought that a subscription list should be initiated, otherwise he thought that the committee would not be able to afford funds to subsidise local committees, or bear out other necessary expenses.
At the suggestion of the chairman, Mr Webb undertook to bring the matter forward in the form of a substantive motion. The following accounts were passed :— Petty cash, L 5; "Daily Times" Ll2 7s ; " Daily Telegraph," LlB 10s 6d.
An account from the " Daily News " was referred back for further enquiry. Tenders for the insertion of an advertisement relative to the Exhibition were ordered to be called for to be laid before the next meeting. Mr Webb gave a notice of motion relative to the initiation of a subscription in aid ot the local committee's funds, after which the meeting adjourned.
