POLAND.
Poland demands recognition as a belligerent power, and accepts Russia's declaration that the war must decide her independence. Several sanguinary engagements have been fought between the forces of Russia and Poland, generally in favor of the latter, Great cruelty is still practised by the Russians, whose policy is to destroy the revolution by protracting it over the winter.
