THE DUNSTAN.

(PROM THE DA.ILT TIMES CORRESPONDENT.)

Dunstan, 23rd JNovember. The weather the last few days has been very unsettled and stormy. On Saturday, shortly after noon, the township was vjslted by a severe storm of ram and hail ; on the ranges it was very severe where, of course, the aqueous descent falls in the shape of snow. C n Sunday morning the mountain tops presented a very wintry appearanoe, bat are now gradually thawing;

The Molyneux has fallen very much during the last fortnight, but as the number at work on the beiches is very small, its rise or fall is of no particular moment, all the workings on the river at present being conSned to the banks out of the reach of floods altogether. From appearances, considering tl.afc the present season is a very early one, as we'll as the absence of snow on most of the mountains, where, at this time last year, it lay thick, thire is every probability of the river being down towards the end of tbe summer when a good rush to the banks will be the result ; most of the elaimholders that I meet fully anticipate such an event. A public meeting was held at the Dunstan Hotel, ou Thursday evening last, for the purpose of electing stewards for the -forthcoming races. The large number of thirteen gentlemen were duly appointed to j serve 7he fneet is to take place about midway on the plain between the fjpper and £ower townships. It has also been settled that we are to have a Highland Gatheringon the first day ot the ensuing year. A subscription is already on foot to secure that object. The Inspector of Nuisances, who commenced his functions on Thursday last, commenced a raid on the different, business people who are in tha habit of exposing on the footpath a large amount of their wares for sale. } should mention that cm the previous day fhey received a warning that dheh practices' must oease for the future j but in most cases itwasun^ heeded. The Inspector appearing in proper seaton on the morning in question, causal a general moye of the obnoxious articles to within doors
