The objects and intentions which the proposed Company have in view, are forthwith to purchase the screw steamers Wonga Wonga and Storm Bird, the coal hulk Caledonia, and all stores belonging to the Wellington Steam Navigation Company ; to procure a steam vessel of light draught of water, adapted for entering such rivers as the Wairau, the Sumner, the Manawatu, 4c; and also, as early aa practicable, to purchase a steam vessel of sufficient tonnage, steam power, and cabin accommodation as will enable the Company to maintain rapid and regular communication between Cook's Strait, Auckland, Dunedin, and the several intermediate ports. It ia further proposed always to keep in view the importance of making such arrangements as will ensure I the gradual but certain expansion of the Company's operations. The termination of the Wellington Steam Navigation Company, by effluxion of time, and the encouraging success which has attended its working— tha important benefits it has been the means of conferring upon this nnd the other Ports of New Zealand, by supplying the means of quick and regular communication, have led the promoters of the projected Company to ask their fellow-colonists to unite with them in forming a Company on a larger basis, not confined as the preceding one was to purely local traffic, but one with more general views and objects, to be called "The New Zealand Steam Navigation Company (Limited)." The present time appears to be a most favorable opportunity for inaugurating a Company having such views; as there is every reason to believe that throughout the whole Coiony we are on the eve of important events, and that population and trade is rapidly on th© increase. The Company entertain no doubt that they will ver soon be in a position to tender to perform some portioii of the Inter-Provincial Mail Service — and it is believed that the General Government and the various Provincial authorities would readily avail them selves of the services of vessels owned by a New Zealand promietary, and directed by local, energetio. nnd responsible Management. The great success of the various Australian Steam Companies leave little doubt that similar results wu be secured by a New Zealand Steam Comany, estab - lished on a broad and permanent basis, susceptible of expansion, with a view to meet the requirements of that prosperous future whichat is believed will certainly and shortly be realised in New Zealand. It is consequently proposed that an 1 Association should be formed, having a Capital of £50.000' (with, power to increase it), in shares of £10 each • and the co-operation and assistance of settlers throughout the Colony is invited. A considerable- number of shares will be reserved for allotment for persona re« siding in the neighboring Provinces, The Balance Sheet of the Company will b6i. made up every half year— say on the Ist Sepember and Ist March of each year—and a copy forwarded to each.
